Our Riesling is usually fermented to dry (no discernable residual sugars) and this wine has a floral (citrus flowers) aroma with citrus (lemon/lime) and green apple on the palate when young. Given time, it develops the toasty, honey flavours so typical of older cool-climate rieslings, with the classic cool climate acid backbone. Choose to drink early as a young refreshing wine or cellar to enjoy the fully developed flavours.

The 2011 season was cooler than the previous year with average rainfall before harvest, so the grapes were much slower to ripen and accumulate sugars. This makes the wine a more European style Riesling.

Our Riesling pairs well with Asian dishes, smoked sausage, and of course is perfect with seafood (oysters, prawns, lobster, shellfish).

More about this wine

2011 season

Whilst the average summer temperature was slightly lower than the long-term average it was almost 2 degrees cooler (21C) than last year. The flowering period in December was particularly cool. There were only 2 days during summer where the temperature exceeded 30C.

Whilst wetter than the previous year, our summer rainfall matched the long- term average of about 145mm. There were more wet days (43) than last year (21) and as a consequence, on average there were 2 hours less sunshine per day than the previous summer. Similarly, autumn was cooler and wetter than last year, with almost 200mm of rain falling in autumn, including a large fall during vintage in early April.

This helps explain why the grapes were much slower to ripen and accumulate sugars this year.

The Chardonnay was picked on 20 March for sparkling, the Riesling on 10 April and the Pinot noir on 20 April.

Preservative and allergen information

We use a small amount of sulphur-based preservative (224) in all of our wines and Verjuice to stabilise the wine and ensure a long life.

All of our still wines are packaged on a bottling line that may have traces of nut products. We do not use any nuts as part of our production process.

Our white wines may contain traces of dairy products (skim milk) remaining in the wine after the fining and filtration process.

Our red wines are vegan-friendly wines, as we do not use any animal products in their production.

Packaging and recycling information

Our sparkling wine is labelled with recyclable waterproof labels (designed to remain intact in ice buckets!) and biodegradable inks. The cap, cage (muselet), foil and glass bottle are fully recyclable.

Our natural cork stopper can be composted at home or via compost collection, or recycled through ReCork (available at select Dan Murphy’s stores across Australia).

All of our still wines are labelled with compostable paper-based labels for each varietal and a handwritten year; this allows us to eliminate duplication of labels for different vintages. The screw cap and glass bottle are fully recyclable.

We ship all of our wine using recycled cardboard packaging. Sparkling wine is packaged during bottling; still wine is packaged during order processing. You may receive different packages depending on availability. We reuse boxes from tasting events and within our storage facility.
